Financial Support and Benefits

Living with pulmonary fibrosis can have a significant impact on your finances as well as your health. A range of benefits, allowances and practical support may be available to help with everyday living, work, caring responsibilities and mobility. This page provides an overview of the support you may be entitled to and where to find more information about making a claim.

Personal Independence Payment (PIP)

Personal Independence Payment (PIP) can help with extra living costs if you have both:

A long-term physical or mental health condition or disability

Difficulty doing certain everyday tasks or getting around because of your condition

You will be assessed by a health professional and the amount received depends on how PF affects you. More information can be found at www.gov.uk/pip

Carer's Allowance

You could claim carer's allowance if you care for someone at least 35 hours a week and they get certain benefits.

You do not have to be related to, or live with, the person you care for.

If someone else also cares for the same person as you, only one of you can claim Carer’s Allowance.

Attendance Allowance

Attendance Allowance helps with extra costs if you have a disability severe enough that you need someone to help look after you.

Statutory Sick Pay (SSP)

A weekly payment if you’re too ill to work. It’s paid by your employer for up to 28 weeks.

Blue badge

Allows you to park closer to your destination.

Self-employed

You cannot claim SPP but can apply for PIP and Universal Credit.
